Florida Maps (See Also Map Information for other States) - Noteworthy collections of early-to-modern Florida maps are held by the Florida Historical Society Library headquartered at the University of South Florida Library, Tampa, FL 33620; the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History and the Map Collection, University of Florida Libraries, Gainesville, FL 32611; the Robert Manning Strozier Library, Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL 32306; Special Collections, University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL 33124; and the John C. Pace Library, University of West Florida, Pensacola, FL 32514.

The National Topographic Map Series of the U.S. Geological Survey includes several series of very useful maps at various scales. Also extremely useful is the Florida Department of Transportation's county highway map series at a scale of one inch to one-half mile. Maps that show property ownership and boundaries are usually obtainable at the county property appraiser's office. Sanborn and other fire insurance maps should not be overlooked for urban areas, and the Map Department, University of Florida Libraries has an excellent set of Sanborn original duplicate copies transferred from the Library of Congress. The Florida and Genealogy Collection at the Miami-Dade Public Library (see Archive, Libraries, and Societies) also has a microfilm collection of Sanborn maps of south Florida's major cities.
